Firstly, the Australian child must apply for sponsorship approval so that they are able to sponsor their parent to come to Australia.

Sponsors are required to meet the following additional criteria:

• Be a usual resident of Australia for at least 4 years and not held a Bridging visa other than an A, B, or C as well as not been unlawful in Australia in the last four years
• Have no debts with the Australian Government
• Have earned at least at least $83,454.80 taxable income in the most recent financial year
• Meet character requirements
• Have met all previous sponsorship requirements if you were a sponsor before
• Once sponsorship is approved, the parent can apply for either one of the following two options:
  • Up to three years stay: the cost is $5,000
  • Up to five years stay: the cost is $10,000

The applicant needs to meet the following criteria:

• Biological or legal parent of sponsor
• Have complied with past visa conditions
• Meet health and character requirements
• Have access to sufficient funds in Australia
• Have the intention to stay in Australia temporarily
• Must hold health insurance and have no debts with the Commonwealth of Australia
