Contributory parent visa (subclass 173 and 143)
The contributory parent visa allows parents to join their children in Australia permanently. Subclass 173 is lodged offshore and will allow parents to stay in Australia for two years once it is approved.

Contributory parent visa (subclass 173 and 143)
Visa holders cannot extend the two year period, but can apply for the permanent visa stage which is the Contributory Parent (subclass 143) visa. Once this visa is approved, the parent will hold full permanent visa in Australia.
You might be eligible to apply for a parent category visa if:
- You have one or more children who are Australian citizens, an permanent residents, or an eligible New Zealand citizens
- Your child has been living in Australia lawfully for at least 2 years before you lodge your visa application
- You meet the Balance of family test criteria
- You meet health and character requirements.
