Visa holders cannot extend the two year period, but can apply for the permanent visa stage which is the Contributory Parent (subclass 143) visa. Once this visa is approved, the parent will hold full permanent visa in Australia.

• You have one or more children who are Australian citizens, an permanent residents, or an eligible New Zealand citizens
• Your child has been living in Australia lawfully for at least 2 years before you lodge your visa application
• You meet the Balance of family test criteria
• You meet health and character requirements.
